Reno Phil Classix #3: Grieg’s Piano Concerto

Classix 3 featuring pianist Andrew Von Oeyen

Our third concert opens with composer Dai Wei’s pulsating effervescent overture “The Dancing Moonlight.” The title offers a great description of Wei’s tone picture. Next is one of my favorite concertos. From its grand opening arpeggios to its tour-de-force finale, Grieg’s masterpiece is one of the most popular-and most recognizable-piano concertos ever written. Hear it performed by the acclaimed pianist Andrew Von Oeyen, who brings his artistic flair and brilliant technique to Reno’s Pioneer Center for our performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The program concludes with Beethoven’s most cheerful symphony—the Fourth. It sounds easy, but is a challenge to perform for both the musicians and the conductor!
